Pastor
I am pastor Liliana Stahlberg, originally from Romania, in Eastern Europe. I came to the US in 2000 for the purpose of becoming a pastor. I had a friend in Denver who invited me to come and apply to study theology at Iliff school of Theology in Denver. Both my friend and I were raised in the Eastern Orthodox Church (think Greek Orthodox). We had met at The World Council of Churches in Geneva and we were both interested in women’s ordination in our denomination. Women cannot be priests in the Orthodox Churches.
I was admitted at Iliff in the spring on 2001, and I received the Dean’s Award, which meant full tuition covered for three years. I graduated in 2004 with a Master of Divinity. After Iliff, I went to Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA, and got a degree in Advanced Theological Studies.
I started my career in 2003 by being a Youth Covenant Leader, at Iliff School of Theology. Then in 2004, I became a Youth Director at Advent Lutheran Church in Arvada. In 2007 I was hired as pastor in training at Bethlehem Lutheran in Longmont. In 2009, I was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament at Highlands Lutheran Church in Denver. There I became a re-development pastor and helped that congregation grow with many families, children, and people of all ages. After six years I was asked to interview at Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church, in Dillon, CO, for another ministry of re-development. It is there that I started a Re-Formation process that led to the healing of the congregation and new life in Christ.
2020 brought COVID and many people found it hard to adapt to the new situation. My own family went through a turmoil, the result of which was that I became the legal guardian of my granddaughter Rebecca. I resigned my call to be able to take care of her and in 2021, I retired.
Yet, my call to ministry is nudging me to continue to serve Christ’s communities. Our bishop recommended that I interview with your council…and here I am writing to you and beginning this new call at LCOR on March 13th.
I am praying for each of you and for me to become beacons of hope for our congregation as well as for LCOR to represent the LIGHT of Christ in Fort Morgan and beyond.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Liliana Stahlberg
